THE STANLEY - NAIROBI
Situated in the city centre, the Stanley has a history of famous
travellers, including Earnest Hemingway, who regularly gathered
for a drink at the legendary Thorn Tree Café before or after
a long safari. A message board on the acacia tree was and still
is used by travellers to make contact with fellow travellers. Today,
the Stanley has lost much of its importance as a meeting place,
but a drink at the Thorn Tree Café is still a pleasant experience.
Recently, the hotel has been refurbished to a high standard and
still retains the original Victorian charm. With just over two hundred
rooms, popular bars, good food and friendly staff, the Stanley is
still one of the best places to stay in Nairobi.
SERENA
MOUNTAIN VILLAGE LODGE - ARUSHA
Located on a working coffee plantation at the foot of Mount Meru,
just eight miles outside Arusha town, it's approximately 30 minutes
from Kilimanjaro Airport. Accommodation is in forty two comfortably
furnished and individually styled rondavel huts overlooking Lake
Duluti. The whole area is a haven for bird life and the lodge can
organise walks around the lake and the coffee plantations. There
is a pool, a large central restaurant serving good food and the
bars an ideal place to discuss the safari or climbing experiences.
Probably the best place in this area and newly refurbished.
